WHO AM I? MY BACKGROUND?
HELLO! I am Ambreen Zaman Riaz, founder of ‘I Change Her Life’. I believe in Self-Reliance, not Charity! My enterprise creates positive change in the lives of disadvantaged women through employment and training. I was practicing as a medical doctor before transitioning into the non-profit sector. I changed my field of work because my professional goals had been based on my social conditioning rather than my authentic values and beliefs. The challenges I faced in my personal life made me acutely aware of social evils such as gender violence and poverty.
WHY I THINK, I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME A GOOD LEADER?
I am passionate about my work, which focuses on service while preserving human dignity. I possess a diverse skill set that includes good problem-solving skills. I can easily apply my approach as a physician to social problems such as poverty by using a step-by-step method of diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. My leadership skills were recently recognized on a global platform at Stevie Business Awards in New York. ‘I Change Her Life’ received a gold trophy and top honors among 2,300 nominations from 25 countries. I am also a TED Speaker. Running marathons helped me to develop grit and stamina to set and accomplish my goals with dedication and hard work.
WHAT MOTIVATES ME TO HELP CREATE A WORLD BEYOND POVERTY?
I firmly believe that poverty is the cause of social evils, especially gender violence. A recent study conducted by my enterprise clearly indicates that two entities are interlinked. Poverty is the precursor of religious extremism, fundamentalism, and intolerance, which are factors that contribute towards an increase in gender violence and have a profound impact on the role of women in society. My research work inspired by Theory Of Change* is based on the premise that the aforementioned social dilemmas can be resolved by making small changes at the grassroots level.
